When Palma was still a walled city, fear descended on the people of the Portella and Call districts. As dusk fell, some locals had seen a dragon dragging his long scaly body across the ground in search of meat to fill his starving belly. No one knew where it had come from, but its foul breath poisoned the air.  

One night, Bartomeu Coc arrived from Alcudia. He was a young soldier who had travelled there to court Catalina Costa, his beloved, who lived close to Portella.  While they were exchanging tender words, the dragon emerged from the treacherous shadows, its open mouth filled with razor sharp teeth. It had a tail like a dagger and eyes that glowed like coals. Catalina screamed...
