The mother and son were so poor that they had no home to live in. They survived on the little they earned from begging. One evening, they reached San Llorenç. It was cold and night was falling. A miserable wretch offered them a house to spend the night in, refraining from saying that it was haunted and that a strange presence lived there. The woman and child lit a fire with four branches and cooked some garlic soup to eat. Just as they were taking the first mouthful, a deep vibrant voice rang out in terrifying manner: “Light, make some light. There must be light!” The little boy walked up to a room and opened the door, whose hinges screeched loudly...
