Saint Ramon de Penyafort’s Crossing
Sóller

According to legend...

King James 1st and Ramon de Penyafort both travelled to Majorca together to conquer the island: one armed with a sword and the other with faith. The king and monk were good friends and they had long conversations, although sometimes Ramon was angered by the monarch’s over-fondness for women and worldly pleasures. One day they had a big argument and Ramon decided to return to Barcelona. If King James refused to listen to him, it was not worth bothering to try and teach him. He packed his few belongings and set off determinedly for the dock, planning to board the first ship to leave. The king, however, who knew him just as well as if they were brothers, did not want to let him leave and he had already given orders for no skipper to let him on board ship...
