From the 14th century, when Arnau Desbrull built the first hermitage, hermits lived on this mountain, as the stone on the façade informs visitors.  The statue of Christ of the Hermits dates back to this time. The current oratory was built in the 17th century although it has undergone various alterations over the centuries. 

It is currently run by a congregation of Missionaries of the Sacred Heart as a centre for spiritual retreats.
