This sculpture by Llorenç Rosselló was cast in bronze in the 1950s, based on an original plaster sculpture dating back to 1898. In 1970, Palma City Council declared it to be a symbol of the city. It shows a pre-Roman warrior in the act of slinging a stone. These slingers were famous for their skills throughout the whole of the Mediterranean and so they were used as mercenaries by the Carthaginians.
