This fort was built in 1730 and designed by engineer José Muñoz, but it had to be rebuilt when it was damaged by the 1793 earthquake. The fort’s shape is conceived to meet its defensive needs and so it just has one entrance on its inland side. On the side facing the sea, it has embrasures for canons and loopholes.
