Work began on the construction of the church in about 1731, when the main nave and chapels were built, followed by the bell-tower in 1817. It was not finished until 1941, with the construction of the transept and apse. The façade stands out for its unornamented design, except for a niche with a statue of Saint Barbara and a rose window. It also stands out for the image of the Sacred Heart of Jesus on the glass roof of the dome.
