Two hours later, Carlos took his leave insisting on the fact that that house was a monstrosity, that it had spoilt the Bay of Pollença, that only a mad and foolish painter could have thought of building the ruins of Puruchuco in Mallorca, and how much he had had to pay the authorities to obtain permission to erect an Incan temple under the sun of the Balearic Islands.

(Lima, Perú, 1939). Alfredo Bryce Echenique is a writer and narrator. He is the author of stories, chronicles and novels. After having gained a degree in Law and Letters in his hometown, he moved to Europe in 1964 and lived in France, Italy, Greece and Germany. In the 80s he took up residence in Barcelona and Madrid and in the 90s he returned to Peru. While in Paris he worked as a lecturer in various universities and embarked on a literary career. His first novel Un mundo para Julius (1970) was the winner of the National Prize for Literature in Peru.
